Scout Camp--Not For The Timid

Ever been to camp with boy scouts? The Boy Scouts of America sponsors and supports camps all over the US. Scouting is an international experience. But have you ever been to one? Have you ever been camping with a couple hundred boys ranging in age from 11 years old to 18, or older...ranging from "Caspar Milquetoast" to Attila the Hun's nephew? Mostly great young men, but certainly full of vim and vigor, pranks and late-night howling, playing strip poker in their tent (I did that--and lost!), eating, cooking (if you can call it that), running, having fun, poking fun, learning, avoiding a bath for a whole week (something they cannot do at home), and living by the motto: What Happens At Camp, Stays At Camp! [Where have you heard that before? There is a comparison...just no women or alcohol.] Probably the only whole week in a year when a young man gets to Be All He Can (wants to) Be, and no mother to stop him; just adult leaders to watch after him (who are half boy themselves).

That is where I am this week. Will let you in on the adventure! Stay tuned.
