More Weird Celebrations...

Europe has no corner on the weird celebration market! In Seattle they bike ride nude. They say it is to protest car polution...but if you look at some of the pictures, they cause eye polution to me. Nudity ain't all that pretty. There is an actual organization, World Naked Bike Ride, which promotes protest against the "car culture" (I take it they would not like my Mustang GT) and celebrate the human body and cycling (have to admit...I like those two...too...).

The 9-11 Celebration in Ukraine

This celebration predated the twin towers 9-11 occurrance I am sure, but it is none the less interesting that on September eleven Ukraine (or at least the city I am in today--Odessa, Ukraine) has a holiday. Today is a Thursday...and I wondered why there were so many BIG weddings occurring.....on a Thursday??? Go figure...until I found out today is a "Celebration of Vodka!" I tell you, these Ukrainians know how to party: "Olga, there is nothing to celebrate today, so let's celebrate that great beverage Vodka." And as to the weddings....someone explained to me that now there are four days to drink after the wedding, instead of three. I will write more about vodka/alcohol in the Eastern Block later. Have a nice Marriage.

Vodka Celebration Update

I asked other people in Ukraine about the Vodka Holiday and they knew nothing about it. They just laughed and said EVERYDAY is a Vodka Holiday in Ukraine. My favorite story about vodka is my own experience. Several years ago I was in Moscow, Russia heading for the airport. I remembered I had promised a bottle of Russia Vodka to a friend (name will not be given to protect the guilty). I hurriedly purchased a bottle from a local store. It was less expensive than bottled water ($1.25). My friend said it was the "smoothest" vodka he had ever drank. I wonder what the $40 bottle would be like??? By the way, did you know that the word "Vodka" is a diminutive of the Slavic word voda/woda for water. No wonder they drink it like....."WATER." We are always told to "drink plenty of water!"

Parking Ticket???

Park in the wrong spot and you usually get a parking ticket. But in the Ukraine you get a ticket and a visit the local yard. This vehicle was in the wrong place for about 30 minutes. No tow truck for these guys. The vehicle was hoisted and hauled off...and the owner is in the background (having just run out of a restaurant) yelling: "That's mine. That's mine." The hoist people did not care! They hoisted away (the owner thought "heisted"), while an official wrote the ticket. By the way, the only things touching the vehicle were "spoons" under the tires. The belts did not touch. Slick, eh?!!
Do Not Park in the Wrong Place in Odessa, Ukraine!

Computer Tutor Insanity!

"...surf on the information superhighway, not the asphalt superhighway" says this Darwin Award site article about a computer tutor who was using his computer while driving. OOOPS! He died colliding with a Hummer...couldn't even pick a small car! I assume you are familiar with the Darwin Awards: The site which salutes the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidentally remove themselves from it. If you are not familiar, go look! See how stupid people really are!

Remembering President Bush's Tax Refund for Americans

Did you receive your tax return from the President? Was it worth much to you? Was it worth the Millions of Dollars borrowed from China to give you and me a few bucks and buy President Bush some improvement in his rating (he hoped)?

Would Be Truck Thief Chocks On Tobacco Spit

Did I tell you people are stupid??? Insane is cool by the way; stupid is just plain wrong. A truck thief in Vancouver, Washington stole some guy's truck. The thief thought he had a double score: Truck and driver's soft drink. Turns out the driver's "soft drink" was the driver's tobacco spit cup. The thief was caught while chocking on the spit. Here is the full story on the Stunning Stuff site. AND....you know, of course, the mouth has over 200 germs that do not exist in the body. Who Knows What Was In That Spit Cup??!?!! To quote Charlie Brown: Auggg!

Online Gamer Murdered Over Cyber-Sword Sale

You have got to read this to believe it; although apparently it is not a singular event. An online gamer sold a cyber sword borrowed from a friend. Friend went to the police. Police said it was not real property and therefore not protected by law. Borrower got stabbed to death. Read this full story on Stunning Stuff.

Read The Darwin Awards Lately?

charles_darwin.gifIf you want insanity by people who are stupid or egotistical or above natural law, you must read the Darwin Awards. Thank goodness these people help keep the gene pool clean by removing their reproductive ability. To quote the Darwin Awards:

"The Darwin Awards commemorate individuals who protect our gene pool by making the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives: by eliminating themselves in an extraordinarily idiotic manner, thereby improving our species' chance of long-term survival. In other words, they are cautionary tales about people who kill themselves in really stupid ways, and in doing so, significantly improve the gene pool by eliminating themselves from the human race."

Cat Painting? Get Serious!

Have you seen this email circulating (apparently since at least 2007) about Cat Painting and the cost, as high as $15,000.

There are some pretty exotic looking paint jobs on these felines. Snopes.com has more pictures. And if you believe this one, I have some ocean front property in Kansas, USA I will sell you cheap! Snopes.com gives the origin to this hoax. But if you are a cat lover, maybe you are interested. As for me, I used to tell my daughters that the "only good cat is a flat cat!" (But I would never really hurt one.) The real question is: Among you cat lovers, who of you would want this on your cat...assuming no injury/damage to the cat?paintcat03_small.jpg

College Football Is In Full Swing!

Found on Blecher Report. Here are some great college football quotes, my favorite sport, which is in full swing. And you thought Lee Corso is funny. Actually, I think Corso is the funniest color guy in football...right up there with John Madden!
