This celebration predated the twin towers 9-11 occurrance I am sure, but it is none the less interesting that on September eleven Ukraine (or at least the city I am in today--Odessa, Ukraine) has a holiday. Today is a Thursday...and I wondered why there were so many BIG weddings occurring.....on a Thursday??? Go figure...until I found out today is a "Celebration of Vodka!" I tell you, these Ukrainians know how to party: "Olga, there is nothing to celebrate today, so let's celebrate that great beverage Vodka." And as to the weddings....someone explained to me that now there are four days to drink after the wedding, instead of three. I will write more about vodka/alcohol in the Eastern Block later.
