Raising Children

  1. Mistake made in raising children: We treat them like children, but expect them to act like adults. We should treat them like adults, but expect them to act like children.
Treatment as Adults==Respect, honesty, avoid threats, Golden Rule.
Act like Children==Allowance for mistakes, make messes, cause embarassment, fail to understand, onery.
  2. Children are a treasure, and should be treated that way.
  3. Basic needs of children are many, which most parents know about, but which we sometimes do not put into good perspective.
Academic Education. How can they compete successfully in society if they are not educated?
Socialization. The ability to live comfortably and cooperatively in a community.
Proper Discipline. A child without proper discipline may become lazy, selfish, insecure, sociopathic, disrespectful, egocentric.
Love. Most parents truly love their chilren, but often do not show that love in a way the child can understand.
  4. Physical Requirements: Food, shelter, clothing, health care.
  5. Psychological Requirements: Friends, "play things," traditions, routine, peaceful environment,
